Pay-Per-Click

Search Engine Marketing is still in many ways a new phenomenon to both small and large companies. While the understanding is that the internet is an essential part of your advertising campaign, many companies don't understand how that can happen successfully. One of the most essential parts of Search Engine Marketing is Pay per Click advertising.

Pay per click campaign management can be tricky. Pay per Click cost can “get out of hand” if you don't know what you're doing. However, if you really want to give it a try use the following Pay per Click tips and tools to set up your own Pay per Click program.

Pay per click advertising is a form of internet advertising in which companies pay each time a potential customer ‘clicks' on their text ad in the search query results. Getting yourself listed on the major search engines involves research and planning to set up your Pay per Click campaign , followed by the execution of your campaign and the analysis of your results.

Setting up Your Pay per Click Campaign:

Correctly setting up your pay-per-click program is critical. You'll need to determine a few components to move forward to the execution of your campaign.

  • What are the major search engines that you should advertise on?
    • The most popular search engines include: Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.
  • What aspect of my business will my keywords relate to?
  • What is the message I am trying to send to potential customers via text ads?
After determining the above basic information, and setting up accounts on the search engines of your choice, you are ready to dig deeper and start your PPC advertising.

It is critical to manage your Pay per Click bid costs and to write the most compelling Pay per Click ads. If done correctly these two factors will guarantee a successful campaign.

Pay per Click Campaign Execution

After determining the basics listed above, you can move into the execution stage. A few points to consider are:

  • Are the keywords you chose popular? Did you successfully research your keywords?
  • Are your text ads relevant to the keyword they are related to?
  • Did you bid high enough to be a competitor?
  • Are you advertising your whole company via PPC, or specific products and services?
  • What is your budget for each campaign?

By the end of this stage you should be actively watching your campaign to see your business' success on the search engines you have been listing on.

Pay per Click Management

After your execution it is time to determine if your efforts were successful. When evaluating your PPC campaign remember to touch upon:

  • Analysis of reports generated by search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask).
  • What keywords weren't successful?
  • Why weren't those words successful? (i.e. research their popularity)
  • Did you stay within your budget? Could you have bid higher?
  • Were you at a place on the search engine query results page that is acceptable? (i.e. the top 5?)

Another point to consider about Pay per Click Management is the pay-per-click consultants that are available to implement an entire campaign. This option usually consists of pay-per-click outsourcing which is becoming very popular for companies that need an agency to manage their Pay per Click campaigns on a day-to-day basis, even creating them from scratch. Below is an information box about what pay-per-click providers do.

Questions to ask your Pay per Click Consultant

To be successful in your campaigns using PPC, you need to have a management company that are experts in PPC, and who can give you the results you need at a price that is reasonable. A few questions/points to consider when looking for a pay-per-click management company:

  • Is the agency certified in pay-per-click search engine marketing?
  • Certification is available from Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
  • What part of the campaign management will they be taking care of?
  • Will they manage each campaign individually or do you have to sign on for a certain length of time?
  • Will one individual person be your account manager?
  • What will happen if the campaign isn't producing the expected results?
  • Will you be able to make changes to your ads, or will the agency take care of everything?
  • What types of reports will I receive from the agency?
  • How much does the agency cost?
  • What exactly is included in their Pay per Click Campaign Services.

The PPC process is achievable, exciting, and effective for both companies that have never advertised online and for experience internet advertisers. For help managing your campaign, please contact us.
